INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING CHLORINE SOLUTIONS
If the concentrated chlorine solution is prepared manually, the following procedure must be strictly followed:
- Always use a clean preparation container that should only be used to prepare chlorine solutions.
- Calculate the amounts of water and calcium hypochlorite needed to achieve the desired chlorine concentration (see the table below).
- Add at least 90% of the required amount of water (see table below) to the container.
- Slowly add the required amount of calcium hypochlorite to the water while agitating the solution.
- Add the remainder of the required water to bring the total volume to the desired level.
- Continue agitating for at least 15 minutes to ensure that the product is completely dissolved.
COMMERCIAL POOLS AND SPAS
- Do not allow anyone to enter the pool if the concentration of available chlorine is above the national limits, or in the absence of this, 3 mg/l for swimming pools and 4 mg/l for spas.
- For perfectly balanced water, maintain alkalinity (T.A.C.) at a level between 60 and 120 mg/l.
- In an open-air pool, maintain stabiliser concentration between 25 and 50 mg/l.
- Check the chlorine level in pools regularly because UV rays can partially degrade the chlorine.
- Adjust the pH between 7.0 and 7.4.
- Check that the filter is in operation.
- Permanent chlorination:
- Check that the preparation tank and the pump do not contain any stabilised chlorine (trichloroisocyanuric acid or sodium dichloroisocyanuratee: check the labels).
- Prepare chlorine solutions following the dosing table and instructions.
- Adjust the injection to maintain a level of chlorine that meets local regulations. In the absence of regulatory obligations, it is recommended to maintain a level of active chlorine between 1 and 3 mg/l for a pool and between 2.5 and 4 mg/l for a spa.
- Shock chlorination when opening the pool and if the water is green/cloudy: Adjust the injection rate to reach a concentration of available chlorine equal to 10 mg/l.
DRINKING WATER (PT5): disinfectants
DISINFECTION OF INTERIOR SURFACES OF DRINKING WATER SYSTEMS SUCH AS PIPEWORK BY FILLING/CIP WITH CIRCULATION
- Filling of piping with a solution at 100 mg/L in active chlorine minimum ; in order to achieve this, clean carefully the surfaces to be treated and then dissolve 150 g of product per cubic meter of water of the piping to be chlorinated. Plan a 12 hour contact-time minimum before emptying.
DISINFECTION (BACTERIA INCLUDING LEGIONELLA AND VIRUSES) OF WATER FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION
- Injection of stock solution from a tank or injection from an automated feeder.
- Curative disinfection (Primary disinfection): Apply the product as to reach a concentration between 3 and 5 mg/L of active chlorine in water.
- Preventive disinfection (Secondary disinfection): Apply the product as to reach a concentration between 0.2 and 0.5 mg/L of active chlorine in water.
- Ensure that the concentration of chlorine in drinking water does not exceed national chlorine limit before consumption.
- Ensure that the concentration of chlorate present in drinking water does not exceed the parametric values set in Directive 2020/2184.
- For food commodities, make sure that the concentration of chlorate present in food does not exceed the MRL values set by EU Commission (Reg. (EU) 2020/749).
